The Design
The interesiting part to this design was the top that could be changed from a daywear top to an evening top. Depending on the function. The day top the one i'm making has long slevesa and a high square neckline. The evening top had a low cut v neckline.
My Line Drawings
The underware
The Finshed Dress.
The second dress was far more challenging then the first there were alot more challenges. The srtiped fabric definetely ment that i had to be more presice. However the stripes also ment that my measuring witch is quite often a disater was far more accurate. The pleating and other details were also more acurate as i could match up the lines of fabric to a stripe. The reason i didn't just use calico and draw line on it was because i thought this would be more likely to be less acurate especialy with me trying to draw straight lines!!!! The top was quite hard to pull into the right shape i added the darts to pull in the waist and then the waist band was tied round the waist. The shape of the skirt was so different to the previous dress instead of the soft draping from an empire line the skirt was fitted arround the hips emphasising the bussel shape and flaring out from the knees to the ground. I think i emphasised this a little too much as the original design is not quite as fitted as mine and i think this makes it look like it should have come later in the nineteenth century and had a more edwardian feel to it. however it was definetly hard work with all the different layers to the skirt and pleats and details.I know as a toil you should not add details but in this case i thought the details effected the shape of the siluete. I made many mistakes like the polanaise styled back witch should have been wider so there was was a better shape to it.
